The Pull List: Must Read Comics for 5/1/2013

pull2

Polarity

Polarity #2 (of 4)

By: Max Bemis, Jorge Coelho, Frazer Irving

Publisher: Boom! Studios

Price: $3.99

The Lowdown: I thought the first issue was pretty damn good, better than I thought it would. A big part was how much fun it poked at hipsters. (effin’ hipsters).

Suicide Risk #1

By: Mike Carey, Elena Casagrande, Tommy Lee Edwards

Publisher: Boom! Studios

Price: $3.99

The Lowdown: It is a pretty promising premise. A beat cop sick of all the tragedy finds a couple guys who are capable of granting superpowers. They just happen to not be able to choose what power you get. Hope you get a good one!

Arrow

Green Arrow #20

By: Jeff Lemire, Andrea Sorrentino

Publisher: DC Comics

Price: $2.99

The Lowdown: How is it that both Marvel and DC are putting two REALLY amazing archer books. I am loving the direction (especially the art direction) of this Green Arrow book.

Gail Simone

Movement #1

By: Gail Simone, Freddie E. Williams, Amanda Conner

Publisher: DC Comics

Price: $2.99

The Lowdown: The Occupy Movement is having quite the effect on pop culture/fiction. This is DC Comics’ stab at the notion of a secret group protecting the 99% against the bought and paid for superheroes of the 1%.

DC Comics

Swamp Thing #20

By: Charles Soule, Kano, Andy Brase

Publisher: DC Comics

Price: $2.99

The Lowdown: What happens when Scarecrow gases Swamp Thing with his fear gas? He becomes a giant weed invading Metropolis and pissing off Superman.

Evil Dead

Army Of Darkness #13

By: Elliot Serrano, Dietrich Smith, Daniel Leister

Publisher: Dynamite Entertainment

Price: $3.99

The Lowdown: Final Issue! I haven’t really read any of this, but it amuses me that Bruce Campbell teams up with the gender reversed version of himself.

Avengers

Age Of Ultron #7 (of 10)

By: Brian Michael Bendis, Brandon Peterson

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Price: $3.99

The Lowdown: Ultron is controlling his drones from the future and ruining the Marvel timestream. Wolverine and Invisible Woman went into the past, while Captain America brings a team into the future, so everything’s getting screwed up. Just look at all those alternate versions of everybody.

X-Men

All New X-Men #11

By: Brian Michael Bendis, Stuart Immonen

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Price: $3.99

The Lowdown: At the end of the last issue, one of the original X-Men decided to team up with Cyclops’ rebel crew. It was spoiled in a different X-Men book, but maybe you still don’t know.

Avengers

Hawkeye #10

By: Matt Fraction, David Aja

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Price: $2.99

The Lowdown: Like I said, DC and Marvel both have an archer book as one of their MOST consistent. Apparently, an old villain who we have seen before but “not like this.” There words, not mine.

Iron Man

Iron Man #9

By: Kieron Gillen, Greg Land

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Price: $3.99

The Lowdown: This leads into the secret origin of Tony Stark (not Iron Man).

Spider-Man

Superior Spider-Man #9

By: Dan Slott, Humberto Ramos

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Price: $3.99

The Lowdown: Doc Ock vs Spidey for who gets ultimate control of Spidey’s body. That is a very weird sentence to write, but it sounds like the whole reason for the Marvel Now Spider-Man reboot is going to be resolved.
