Another month another convention; this time Germany’s Gamescom where a slew of new games were announced, new console bundles revealed and new trailers unleashed. We all know what you’re here for, so I’m going to shut up now and show you the best of this years Gamescom extravaganza!

WiLD

Set 10,000BCE, Wild is a game about exploration and adventure. You and your friends play as either prehistoric, stone age humans, or a wide variety of animals, or apparently as a reanimated skeleton, in this game “set in a time where nature and man were one”.

PS4 Exclusive

Until Dawn

Ever wanted to play an 80s slasher flick? Now you can. In Until Dawn you play all eight friends as they spend a weekend in an old cabin, to be picked off one by one Cabin In The Woods style. You decide who lives and who dies and the developers have hinted at differing story outcomes based on your choices.

Shadow of Mordor

The new trailer for the Lord of the Rings prequel game looks, just, pure excellence.

Multiplatform

Far Cry 4

Take in some of the locations in this short, but incredibly pretty, new trailer.

Rime

The best way I can describe this game is as the glorious bastard lovechild of Ico and Wind Waker.

PS4 Exclusive

Bloodborne

From Software bring terror and gore and impossibly difficult gaming back with this gothic title.

PS4 Exclusive

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

SUCH EXPLOSIONS! SO SCIFI! I lost interest in CoD years ago. This will be the game that brings me back to the franchise. Set in the near future, it’s clearly benefitting from the three year dev cycle. See, this is what you can do when you don’t crap out a sequel annually.

Rise of the Tomb Raider

The sequel to the fantastic reboot with a truly unexpected twist. So as it turns out, MS was just BSing everyone about the exclusivity. When they said the words ‘exclusive to Xbox’ and ‘coming only to Xbox’ what they meant was, it’s coming to Xbox first because we paid Crystal Dynamics for that, then other platforms 3-6 months later.

Xbox TIMED Exclusive! (actually multiplatform)

Sunset Overdrive

This game looks more and more fun every time I see it. I’ve preordered the White Console bundle for this.

Xbox One Exclusive

Fable Legends

Four player Fable fun.

Xbox One Exclusive

Halo 5: Guardians

This trailer shows off the multiplayer beta.

Xbox One Exclusive

Assassin’s Creed Unity

The next entry in the AC franchise. Looks great. By all accounts Ubisoft have rebuilt the free running / parkour / combat from the ground up.

Multiplatform

Evolve

In addition to this new trailer was the news that the beta will be Xbox One only. We can see in this a lot more of the evolution system the monster will utilise as well as a new map: The Distillery.

Multiplatform

Tearaway Unfolded

Previously a Vita exclusive, the Media Molecule title Tearaway is coming to PS4

PS4 Exclusive

Silent Hills

Billed as a demo of a new IP, this was revealed to actually be a new Silent Hill title helmed by Hideo Kojima, Guillermo del Toro and starring Norman Reedus. Colour me excited.

Ghost of a Tale

You’re a little mouse and you have little clothes and there’s a little mouse castle and fuck this looks like Mouse Guard, which is not at all a bad thing. Awesome!

Xbox One Exclusive

Dead Island 2

Kill zombies. On an island. Much like the first. Hopefully with fewer bugs.

Sadly, yet again, Nintendo aren’t doing a keynote at Gamescom (probably because the company is haemorrhaging money due to poor WiiU sales) so trailers for their upcoming titles are being released in dribs and drabs through the week.
