The Breakout Stars of ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’

tumblr_nhxq5oTtiz1u1hypno1_1280If you haven’t seen Kingsman: The Secret Service yet you should probably head to your local cinema the next chance you get to check it out. I can’t accurately put into words how much fun I had with this flick but it was enough where I would venture out to pay for this again and again in order to try and get a sequel cemented. It was pulpy, colorful, amazingly vibrant 70’s era spy fare with a hell of a cast and a vibe of pure fun that’s been missing from a majority of action movies lately.   Gone are the greys and dark blues of the gritty, seedy revenge thrillers with little to no life in them.  Instead we get a spoofy James Bond tone that kept the movie light and full of nods, while the rest of the cast seemed to be completely in on the joke.  Speaking of the cast there are a trio of unknowns that anchor the movie in their own unique way from our main hero, a Bond style henchman and the newest member of the team.   Here are a couple of brief bios on the three:

Taron Egerton

The real breakout star of Kingsman is none other than our titular hero Eggsy played by fresh looking newcomer Taron Egerton.  This dude has the swagger, the look, the attitude, the body (holy fuck) and the overall vibe to stick around for a long, long time. He’s the type of guy women and men can fall in love with all at the same time (and he basically stole my fiancee during the movie.. oh well, it was a nice run). I think his star will blow up immediately and the X-Men franchise really missed out big time by passing over him as Cyclops.

Upcoming Movies:
Taron seems to be working with the big boys of Hollywood already as he has two movies lined up with both Tom Hardy and Hugh Jackman. The first is a movie where he’s the lead and Jackman is his co-star called “Eddie the Eagle”, a story centered on “Great Britain’s first ski jumper to enter the Winter Olympics” (Egerton – from IMDB).

The second is the much anticipated gangster movie “Legend” centering on identical twin gangsters Ronald and Reginald Kray (Tom Hardy as both) who terrorize London during the 1950s and 1960s.

Either way you should keep your eyes peeled for Taron in the next few years as the Brits continue to take Hollywood by storm.

Sofia Boutella

Yeah, Sofia Boutella is a professional dancer and it makes sense because she STEALS THE GODDAMN MOVIE as Gazelle and might be the best Bond henchman of all-time. She’s calculated, bad-ass and a worthy smackdown artist who takes out just about everyone she comes across in the flick. I’d love to see her make a name for herself in action fare and possibly join an upcoming comic-book movie as a silent assassin of sorts.  Either way she showed she belongs on the big screen and could be one of the next female action stars to garner a ton of praise and success in side roles and supporting pieces.

Upcoming Movies:  All that’s on her slate in the next year is “Jet Trash”, a low-budget foreign thriller from Southern India but something tells me she’ll be nabbing State side action movie roles in no time.

Sophie Cookson

Roxy starts off the movie with a smaller role that only grows to one of the most crucial and important of the story. She might be the most “Kingsman” material out of the entire group of recruits and she brought that mix of fun and bad-ass to the performance. Oh, and she’s gorgeous on top of it (are you noticing a theme here?).  She’s another one of the newcomers along with Taron who has the look and attitude of success, and maybe she’ll parlay this smaller performance into something bigger.

Upcoming Movies:
She only has one project listed right now but it’s “Emperor”, an “Action epic about a young girl who seeks revenge on the holy roman Emperor Charles V for the death of her father. It happens in a world of wealth, debauchery, violent retaliations, sex, manipulation and treason… it’s the 16th century revisited.” (IMDB). Yeah.. I don’t know about that but I’m guessing after Kingsman she’ll grab some more roles – possibly a recurring TV appearance – and keep it going.
