The Pull List: Must Read Comics Week of 6/27/12

Hypernaturals #1

By: Dan Abnett, Brad Walker, and Francesco Mattina

Publisher: Boom!

Estimated price: $3.99

What;s it about: It’s about a team of intergalactic peace keepers. I struggled with whether I should suggest this one of not since its entire 12,000 issue first printing has sold out in advance. Obviously people are excited about it, so in the future you should check it out. I’ll try to remember to mention it again around the time the second printing comes about.

Angel and Faith #11

By: Christos Gage, Rebekah Isaacs, Dan Jackson, and Steve Morris

Publisher: Dark Horse

Estimated Price: $2.99

What’s it about: I mention this because I am having an absolute blast with this book. It is so easy to hear David Boreanaz and Eliza Dushku’s voices when I read their dialog. This may have stemmed from what a great relationship they had in Angel’s solo tv series and how little they actually showed them interacting. This issue is the start of a brand new arc.

American Vampire #28

By: Scott Snyder, Roger Cruz, and Rafael Albuquerque

Publisher: DC/Vertigo

Estimated Price: $2.99

What’s it about: It is by far one of the best series on the market. Its a new arc starting featuring elements of the Red Scare. Skinner Sweet and Pearl are back in the limelight after a divergent arc.

Aquaman #10

By: Geoff Johns, Ivan Reis, and Joe Prado

Publisher: DC Comics

Estimated Price: $2.99

What’s it about: It is about how freaking cool the often insulted Aquaman really is. Geoff Johns does his epic thing opening the scope of Aquaman’s world bringing and exploring the history of Atlantis and how it sunk in the first place. This issue will bring Aquaman’s old team, The Others, all together for the first time.

Batman Incorporated #2

By: Grant Morrison and Chris Burnham

Publisher: DC Comics

Estimated Price: $2.99

What’s it about: I was honestly worried that Morrison would never be able to finish his Batman opus when DC decided to reboot almost a year ago. Thankfully his title got new life with this concluding series. It follows Batman’s international band of heroes facing off against the villain who has been pulling the strings all along, Leviathon, who was revealed to Talia Al Ghul some months ago.

Before Watchmen Nite Owl #1 (of 4)

By: J. Michael Straczynski and Andy Kubert

Publisher: DC Comics

Estimated Price: #3.99

What’s it about: I wasn’t planning on mentioned EVERY “Before Watchmen” title, but I think whether they prove to be bad or good, they’ll be something to talk about. This one follows the adventures (or rather retirement) of my favorite character from the Watchmen series, Nite-Owl II.

I Vampire #10

By: Joshua Hale Fialkov, Andrea Sorrentino, and Clayton Crain

Publisher: DC Comics

Estimated Price: $2.99

What’s it about: When I Vampire was first announced as one of the first 52 titles in the reboot, I had my doubts. It’s hard to ignore the visual similarities to Twilight. Instead, it was one of the best new books and definitely the kind of vampire story that REAL vamp-fans have been dying for. The solicit mentions this issue introduces The Order of the Van Helsings. Guessing from their incredibly uncreative name, they must be an organization of vampire slayers.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #11

By: Tom Waltz, Dan Duncan, and Kevin Eastman

Publisher: IDW Publishing

Esitmated Price: $3.99

What’s it about: It is a retelling of the classic Ninja Turtle origin. It seems like it has cherry picked the best parts of all the cartoons, comics, and movies for the ultimate Turtle experience. Old school Turtle fans, get on this!

Hit-Girl #1 (of 5)

By: Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.

Publisher: Marvel MAX

Estimated Price: $2.99

What’s it about: This story will bridge the gap between Kick-Ass Volume 1 and Volume 2 where Hit Girl settles into her new life as a regular girl. I am including strictly based on the fact people will be looking for it, because neither the comic or movie Kick-Ass impressed me.

X-Men Legacy #269

By: Christos N. Gage, Rafael Sandoval, and Mark Brooks

Publisher: Marvel Comics

Estimated Price: $2.99

Waht’s it about: This is an Avengers vs X-Men tie-in the pits Rogue against Ms Marvel. Given the history these 2 have had, I am definitely interested in what kind of banter and how personal this fight becomes.
