The Pull List: Must Read Comics of 5/6/13
Uber #1
By: Kieron Gillen, Canaan White
Publisher: Avatar Press
Price: $3.99
The Lowdown: This is a new superhero story from a publisher that isn’t Marvel or DC Comics.
Criminal Macabre: No Peace for Dead Men TPB
By: Steve Niles, Eric Powell, Christopher Mitten, Michelle Madsen, Fiona Staples
Publisher: Dark Horse
Price: $17.99
The Lowdown: A Cal MacDonald mystery is always a good time. If you don’t know who Cal MacDonald is, he is like an American John Constantine. This trade paperback collects a few of Cal’s cases including a crossover with the Goon.
Batman #20
By: Scott Snyder, Alex Maleev, Greg Capullo
Publisher: DC Comics
Price: $3.99
The Lowdown: The solicit promises a team-up with Batman that people have been clamoring for since the very beginning. I don’t know what that means though. Superman?
Batman And Red Hood #20
By: Peter J. Tomasi, Patrick Gleason, Mick Gray
Publisher: DC Comics
Price: $2.99
The Lowdown: Batman and Robin continues its tour around Batman’s allies, this time with Red Hood. I keep something dramatic to happen whenever Jason crosses paths with Batman but so far there has been nothing. Here’s hoping for one more time.
Suicide Squad #20
By: Alex Kot, ChrisCross, Jason Pearson
Publisher: DC Comics
Price: $2.99
The Lowdown: The Suicide Squad ended up kind of disappointing. I think it is an awesome premise though, which is why I’m giving this new creative team a shot.
Chin Music #1
By: Steve Niles, Tony Harris
Publisher: Image Comics
Price: $2.99
The Lowdown: Chin Music is about a man unstuck in time who shows up in Prohibition era Chicago stuck between the gangster and supernatural underworld. I always like a good horror-noir from Steve Niles.
Comeback TPB
By: Ed Brisson, Michael Walsh
Publisher: Image Comics
Price: $14.99
The Lowdown: This is the collected 5-issue miniseries involving a time travelling agency that can fix your problems for a huge price, and the agents of said agency on the run when everything inevitably goes to hell.
Avengers #11
By: Jonathan Hickman, Mike Deodato, Dustin Weaver
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Price: $3.99
The Lowdown: Shang-Chi gets the spotlight fighting an ancient villain while the Avengers hang out in Hong Kong at a casino. That doesn’t seem fair, but whatever.
Fearless Defenders #4
By: Cullen Bunn, Will Sliney, Mark Brooks
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Price: $2.99
The Lowdown: Guess who’s origin is a sham? Valkyrie! Time to learn the truth.
Uncanny X-Force #4
By: Sam Humphries, Ron Garney, Kris Anka
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Price: $3.99
The Lowdown: They have playing it really close to the vest with this book. There is still a lot to reveal, like what the hell are Fantomex and Cluster doing and what the hell happened to Bishop?

Fearless Defenders: Great cover!
Avengers: Not a fan of Hickman’s previous work, but the sprawling cast roped me into this series and so far, I love it.
Batman: I want to love Scott Snyder’s Batman so much (the Grayson Batman he wrote in Detective Comics pre-New 52 was great), but he dropped the ball on back-to-back major story arcs. Awesome builds, terrible finishes.
Uncanny X-Force: There’s a girl Fantomex now? I never thought I see the day when I thought the X-Men were too much.

Hickman’s previous work hasn’t been the easiest read. I have tried to start Nightly News 3 or 4 times and just given up. But his version of SHIELD with had an LXG component was pretty amazing.
Yea, there’s actually 3 Fantomexes now. The prime one, a girl one, and an evil one. It was the last thing Remender did before he left the book.

THREE Fantomexes? Eye yi yi.
I have the first 6 issues of Hickman’s SHIELD, and I thoroughly hated it, especially since it was marketed as a 6 issue series, but ended on a cliffhanger. That really annoyed me. I may have to go back and try it again.
