15 Actors You Forgot Were in ‘Scream’
Time for some clickbait! Scream 5 is on the way and we’re looking forward to it. We’re the right age to have grown up with the Scream movies, and we’re keen to see what Radio Silence does with the material. One thing that stands out on a rewatch is how insane the casting is. In addition to the main group, there are some recognisable faces making up the support cast. We’re going to omit actors who appear in the Stab movies within the movies, since they’re all gags anyway.
SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR
Cici
A sorority sister who is staying home during a party, Cici isn’t a major player but does get some one-on-one time with Ghostface. If you need someone to be a red shirt, you can’t do much better.
TIMOTHY OLYPHANT
Mickey
A Ghostface character isn’t one we’d normally include in this film, as this character was just a background player until script changes elevated this character to antagonist level. Olyphant has become a major TV star with Deadwood and Justified, but you may not know he made an early career appearance here.
PARKER POSEY
Jennifer Jolie
Few of the ‘actor’ characters in Scream 3 are memorable, with Posey being the big stand-out. Her ambitious and somewhat detached young actress is an absolute hoot shadowing Gale Weathers to get into character. The dynamic between Posey and Cox was lightning in a bottle.
PORTIA DE ROSSI
Murphy
Years before becoming Lindsay Bluth, de Rossi was laying the groundwork for the character playing sorority sister Murphy. She could have gotten more screen time and become a good bit of comic relief.
HENRY WINKLER
Principal Himbry
In an uncredited role, The Fonz turns up at the school principal in Scream. He scolds some kids for playing murder themed pranks, reveals a leather jacket in his wardrobe and then chats to Wes Craven playing Fred Krueger. Then he gets murdered.
JOSHUA JACKSON
Film Class Guy #1
Scream 2 features a terribly cringe and pretentious film class scene that feature some Jamie Kennedy riffing. It also features an early appearance by Joshua Jackson for some reason.
ALLISON BRIE
Rebecca Walters
Certainly a red shirt character from Scream 4, Rebecca mostly makes the list for being a forgettable character who happens to be the star of Community and GLOW.
EMILY MORTIMER
Angelina Tyler
Being a recognisable star of film and TV, it’s weird to remember that Emily Mortimer plays the sullen and closed off star of Stab 3. This script went through so many rewrites that she was, at one point, going to be the killer.
PATRICK WARBURTON
Steven Stone
Kronk is doing what Kronk does best in Scream 3, and acting as a bodyguard to Jennifer Jolie when the murders start back up again. Unfortunately they don’t give him a great deal of screen-time to flex his comedic abilities before he get Red Shirted out of the film.
LANCE HENRIKSON
John Milton
Everyone’s favourite xenomorph fighting synthetic human turns up as a movie producer and unrepentant rapist…in a movie by the Weinstein company? That’s awkward.
HAYDEN PANETTIERE
Kirby Reed
One of the cooler characters in the fourth film, Kirby has a punk attitude and stands out from an otherwise bland group of characters. Sadly she didn’t make it through to the sequel, and it’s surprising that between this and Heroes that Panettiere didn’t get more roles.
JADA PINKETT and OMAR EPPS
Maureen and Phil
Some of the prologue scenes work, and some don’t. This self-contained bit of meta-horror turns out to be one of the most haunting moments of the series. Whilst poor Phil gets murdered in a bathroom stall, Maureen is faced with the nightmare of being in danger and no-one is willing to believe her.
JERRY O’CONNELL
Derek Feldman
Appearing as Sidney’s boyfriend and victim of frat-house hazing, O’Connell joined the franchise at a time when he was a drawcard for young audiences. That said, you may forget he’s there because he’s a real nothing of a character. Except for that one bit.
CARRIE FISHER
Bianca
In a particularly odd moment, Gale and Jennifer head down to the studio records looking for clues. Working the desk is Bianca, an actress who never made it who happens to resemble Carrie Fisher. In an especially meta moment, Bianca notes that Carrie Fisher only got the role of Princess Leia because she slept with George Lucas. Um, what?
JASON MEWES and KEVIN SMITH
Jay and Silent Bob
This is easily forgotten because they’re so completely out of place. For reasons never explained, Jay and Silent Bob are on a studio tour and they shout at Gale. This is kinda universe breaking, since Stu has a copy of Clerks in his house in Scream, but after the whole Halloween – Scream reference black hole that’s small potatoes.
