‘Horrible Bosses’ Movie Review

Horrible bosses draws an easy parallel to ‘The Hangover’. Comedians better known for television working together to mine comedy from a simple concept. Three guys hate their bosses and plot to murder them – a simple beginning that they generate plenty of funny scenarios from.

The stroke of genius in this film is in casting the bosses. Including three big stars in the less developed roles was a real coup and Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell and Jennifer Aniston are all on top form – it’s pretty clear from the get-go that all three of them are having a blast. When an actor is having fun on-screen it often translates well for the viewer, with Spacey in particular chewing up his part as the maniacal, psychopathic torturer to Jason Bateman’s put-upon employee. Aniston also puts in a surprisingly turn after about a decade of flimsy rom-coms in playing a nutjob nympho, and produces some of the most hysterical moments of the film.

Whilst one of the best comedies of the year, the editor could’ve been a bit tougher and tightened up the running time, making he laughs a bit more consistent. Other than that – plenty of fun to be had!
