‘Paranormal Activity’ Retro Review

Director: Oren Pell

Starring: Katie Featherston, Micah Sloat

Plot: A young couple set up a series of cameras around their house in order to capture unusual happenings that occur in the night.

Review: Paranormal Activity takes it’s influence from modern horror classics such as The Ring and The Blair Witch Project, and sets the stage for the more realistic trends in today’s fright flicks. It also touches on a range of themes – emerging technologies demystifying folklore, changing attitudes towards religion, modern fears relating to unseen threats. But the important thing to know about Paranormal Activity is that it is freak’n booooooooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng. It’s about the worlds most boring couple (seriously, do they never go ou?t), who have the worlds most boring hobbies (beads!) who get haunted by the worlds most boring demon (oh god, her keys are ON THE FLOOR!!!). Boring, boring, boring. The horde of bandwagon jumping fans who were quick to label this as the ‘Scariest Movie Evar’ are obviously damaged.

There’s a certain tenacity in the producers spinning out sequels from this dross.
