Weekly Release Roundup!


Hello fellow geeks!  Welcome to your weekly article on all Blu-Ray/4K Ultra HD/Digital film and television releases.  While I won’t be noting everything released for a particular week, I’ll be highlighting some of the more notable ones.  I’ll also include a brief description of the film, the main actors/actresses and director, whether or not I’ve seen it, and a Rotten Tomatoes/MetaCritic score for those who like that kind of thing.  Enjoy!

Snowden

Director:  Oliver Stone

Starring:  Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Shailene Woodley, Melissa Leo, Tom Wilkinson

What’s It About:  This biographical political thriller follows the exploits of intelligence analyst Edward Snowden, who in 2013 blew the lid off of the NSA’s secret spying of Americans.

A Man Called Ove

Director:  Hannes Holm

Starring:  Rolf Lassgard, Bahar Pars

What’s It About:  Based on the novel of the same name by Fredrik Backman, a world-weary man on the verge of suicide begins an unexpected friendship with a new tenant and her family that turns his life around.

Have I Seen It:  No.

Rotten Tomatoes Score:  Certified Fresh at 92%

Director:  Andrea Arnold

Starring:  Sasha Lane, Shia LaBeouf

What’s It About:  A coming of age road trip drama set in rural Oklahoma.

In the Valley of Violence

Director:  Ti West

Starring:  Ethan Hawke, John Travolta

What’s It About:  This Western follows drifter Paul (Hawke) and his dog Abbie as they navigate the rough town of Denton and its less than upright Marshal Clyde (Travolta).

Starring:  Nicolas Cage, Willem Dafoe

What’s It About:  Three criminals are hired to kill a gangster’s baby.

Have I Seen It:  No.
